Over the years, your trusty bathtub can take quite a beating. The years of use will start manifesting themselves on your tub with gouges, scratches, chips and even burns. Eventually, enough is enough and something has to be done. You can buy a new bathtub, but you'll spend a quite a bit:

* New bathtubs will hurt your wallet quite a bit.
* You will need to pay a professional to remove the old tub.
* Similarly, bathtub installation requires some skill, so you will probably need to hire someone again.
* Removing and installing a bathtub can take days and even weeks, so you will have to to do without your bathtub in that time period.

There are are several alternatives available to buying a new bathtub.

Before You Buy A New Tub, Look At These Choices

1. Bathtub Repainting: You can have your tub repainted. Kits for doing it yourself are available, but if you're not handy, it would be better to find a pro. Even if you hire someone, this will usually be done in a day, and beats buying a new tub. It is a good way to give your tub a shiny new look, maybe even a new color!

2. Bathtub Resurfacing: This is probably the most reliable way to give your tub another twenty years of life. This is also a rather quick option completed in a day.

3. Bathtub Liners: A liner, or new outer surface, is another quick way to make your tub look great.

4. Tub Surrounds: These are walls around the tub, so they do not actually do anything to improve the bathtub itself, but instead dress up the surrounding area.

Very often, one of the above alternatives will work just fine, but sometimes, nothing but replacing the tub completely will work.
